| Thallus thin to thick, sometimes farinaceous, continuous to rimose-areolate or verrucose-areolate, greyish white to cream-coloured, sometimes rusty brown to whitish, with or without a whitish pruina. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish or not visible. Apothecia adnate to sessile, 0.2–2.5 mm diam.; disc plane to convex, flesh-coloured to pinkish, heavily whitish grey-pruinose; margin prominent, persistent, smooth, entire or flexuose, concolorous with the thallus. Cortex 25–35 µm thick laterally and basally, inspersed with small crystals that are insoluble in KOH. Amphithecium with numerous small crystals slowly soluble in KOH. Parathecium with small crystals, c. 20 µm thick. Epihymenium granulose, grey-brown, 10–15 µm thick, with small crystals. Hymenium hyaline, 70–100 µm thick. Hypothecium pale yellowish. Paraphyses sparingly branched, apically slightly thickened. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal, 12–15 × 7–11 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow or K+ yellow → red, C–, Pd+ yellow or Pd+ red; containing atranorin (major), chloroatranorin (minor), ±connorstictic acid (minor), ±norstictic acid (major), ±protocetraric acid (major) and ±salazinic acid (minor).. |  |

| Lecanora farinacea occurs on open or somewhat shaded, siliceous rocks in southern Australia (W.A., S.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas.). Also in southern Africa, Central and South America and New Zealand. | ||
